We will be able to diagnose this venous problem through ultrasound at your first visit. Up until the last several years, the only treatment options to fix this problem were vein strippings done in an operating room, with a lengthy hospital stay. These procedures were very painful, costly, and were not completely effective.

With advanced technology, we can now simply close off the vein that is causing the problems by use of a laser then your healthy veins take over the circulation in your legs. Our procedure has virtually no down time. We typically suggest taking a day off from work, and you may resume normal activities as soon as you would like.
If you have developed varicose veins, or other venous symptoms, conservative therapy measures such as wearing a 20-30 mmHg graduated compression stocking (these can be purchased in our office), elevation of legs when possible, weight loss, if Applicable, walking/low impact exercise can help but the only way to really treat the condition is through an endovenous ablation procedure which can be done here in our office.
Saphenous vein insuffiency can cause large ropey varicose veins, deep blue veins under the skin, spider veins, and restless legs. Let Dr. Jones know during your follow up visit if you are interested in spider vein treatment or removal of the large varicose veins.
Treatment of saphenous vein insuffiency is now minimally invasive. With local anesthetic, an IV stick will be made in your inner leg. A small fiber will then be inserted through the IV up the great saphenous vein with the assistance of ultrasound. After laser insertion, another form of local anesthetic called tumescence (Lidocaine and Saline) will be injected from around your inner knee up to your groin area. There may be minor discomfort, and you will have light sedation offered if necessary. This is to numb the area around the vein and insulate the surrounding tissue from the laser or radio frequency. The laser will then be turned on. A special machine pulls the fiber back at a specific rate as it is firing. Once the fiber has ablated the length of the vein, the vein should no longer have blood flow. This is different in the traditional vein stripping in that you will have only minor discomfort, no large incisions, and no hospital stay. After the procedure, we will wrap your leg with a large ace bandage. The following day, you will need to go into your prescribed compression stockings. You will need to wear them during the day for two weeks until we see you back for your two week follow up.
