Vein problems are common in the U.S. and Europe.
By age 50, nearly 40% of women and 20% of men
have significant varicose veins or other vein disorders.
Leg pain, swelling, and ulcers caused by vein
insufficiency are common reasons our patients suffer
and lose time from work as well as leisure activities.
Spider veins are often unsightly, and result from excess
leg vein pressure due to incompetent saphenous veins.

Varicose veins are large, ropy, unsightly
and uncomfortable veins visible in he skin.

Spider veins are small, skin blemishes
blue to red in color, often branching.

Dermatitis is the brown or red skin color
change usually near the ankle.

Ulceration from vein insufficiency develops
near the ankle, most often on the inside of the ankle, but sometimes on the outside area.

Leg swelling of the lower legs and ankles may be due to abnormal veins.

Leg pain, after sitting or standing for long intervals, may be a consequence of vein pressure caused by abnormal leg veins.

The above symptoms and unsightly veins in the skin are usually a sign of an underlying trunk vein abnormality.  The saphenous veins are the major leg veins returning blood from the skin to the heart. These veins contain one-way valves which are supposed to direct blood flow toward the heart and prevent the blood column from falling back down the leg.  The one-way valves do not function properly in most patients with vein abnormalities. Consequently, blood in the saphenous leg veins will fall back down in the ankle or to the next healthy valve.  This causes increased pressure in the veins, including the skin veins.  The result is the appearance of spider veins and often larger varicose veins.  Without proper treatment, chronic high vein pressures will cause permanent damage such as scarring and ulceration.

The treatment of vein problems at Big Country Vein Relief Center is specific and individualized for each patient.  The underlying cause is treated first in order to prevent future damage and future development of abnormal leg veins.  The appearance often quickly improves after the cause is corrected and subsequent treatment is designed to remove all remaining painful and unsightly veins.  The modern treatments of endovenous ablation, micro-phlebectomy, and sclerotherapy are some of the most significant advances in medicine and surgery in the past 30 years.  These treatments often require no surgical incisions, are relatively painless, and yet give better results than any previous treatment method including the stripping surgery.
